Mt. Shasta and the Milky Way...

Noted photographers J. Gunther, Mike Hupp and I had a wonderful opportunity to join Astro-Photographer Extraordinaire Brad Goldpaint for an all-night photo shoot, chasing the Milky Way around Mt. Shasta. We covered 215 miles in 9 hours and made a complete circumnavigation of the mountain while Brad put us in the right place at the right time to come away with some fantastic images.

Here are some of the fruits of the evening...

The Milky Way over Mt. Shasta, shortly after sunset...

A little later, the colors change and the earth rotates...

From the east, the Milky Way looks like smoke rising from the ancient volcano...

This was my first foray in Astro-Photography and I can tell you now I am hooked. Not an easy task to focus in near zero light but we managed under the patient instruction of Brad whose planning and coordination put us in the optimal spot at each stop to capture the Milky Way and Mt. Shasta in the perfect composition!

Take care all and here's to good light...

Bill
