Bear Valley Wildflowers...

My good friend John Musaus and I headed to Bear Valley, a well known northern California wildflower hot-spot. It is located off of Hwy 20, east of Clear Lake. We were a bit early in the season but hoped to be able to shoot some pictures.

As it turns out, we WERE a bit early but still treated to some patches of wildflowers and some fauna.

All in all, a good day! Be sure to visit John's website at the following URL:

  • Hello,
Enjoyed your burrowing owl photo. When you are out, could you notice if the burrowing owls you see are banded and note the band number and color? There are many people tracking the distribution of burrowing owls and it is always a thrill when we know one is still alive and where it went.
    Thanks,

  • There were some wildflowers blooming in Bear Valley, but March 20 was too early to see this year's peak bloom. We estimate that this year's peak bloom of wildflowers in Bear Valley will be in early April. I'm planning to make another trip then to see the peak bloom and to get some more pictures. We didn't see any burrowing owls, but I did get a brief glimpse of a badger near Bear Valley Buttes.
